Warm Up With Some Mugicha Spiced Seeds

I have been drinking tea for over 20 years! That’s right, I drink a daily cup of warm Mugicha, yet have never had a SAD once in my life. Mugicha is a mixture of roasted barley tea and some green tea sprinkled over it to give it a special taste and aroma. I am not the only one who loves it. In central Japan, Mugicha is traditionally brewed by adding roasted barley grains every morning to hot water to make this warming drink. You do not need five-star or seven-course Japanese meal to enjoy good health. Pure natural foods like organic loose leaf teas and organic spices will ensure your body stays healthy and happy.

From the moment I opened this package, I was transported to an old-fashioned apothecary. The whole place smelled wonderful, as if someone had picked flowers and herbs right out of the garden and crammed them into this package. From what I could see, there were no instructions or ingredients on the packaging – just little trinkets, like colorful dried flowers and tiny tea packets that unfold into bowls.

Workshop: Underglaze Decals

Underglaze Decals Workshop

Workshop is at Makersphere in Waterbury Center, Vermont on October 22 at 1:00 pm.  Fee includes underglaze transfers.  Participants must bring their own greenware (white stoneware that can be 04 bisque fired and cone 5 glaze fired).  Smooth pieces without texture or carving will work best.

When I was little, I had many sticker books and delighted in my collecting and use of stickers.  I now enjoy using decorated washi tape and stickers in my bujo (bullet journal).  For many years, I have been inspired by the wonderful work of Justin Rothshank.  I finally decided to take the plunge and bought some under and over glaze transfers on Etsy and gave it a try.

Initially,  I had to go through a lot of trial and error to figure out how to fire the pieces so the decals didn’t fade away.  I admit to tearing quite a few overglaze transfers until I learned how to properly soak them and remove the paper backing.  I definitely smudged quite a few underglaze transfers by using too much water in my application.  Yet, even with this process, I don’t know that I have had this much fun decorating my work in a very long time.  There is something extraordinarily playful about working with decals.

Have some greenware you want to have fun with?  Come and play with underglaze decals with me in Waterbury, VT on October 22nd.  Then, bring your pieces back in November and we can layer the design with overglaze decals.  Register through Makersphere and save your space in this fun surface design workshop.

Wise Mug

Last night, here in my woods in Central Vermont, it was Owl-A-Palooza!  Must be the bright moon, a bit of spring fever, and all the voles running about snacking on the all night buffet of my seedlings.  There were some Bard owls asking “Who-Cooks-For-You?” and Great Horned Owls requesting clarification, “Who?”.  There was also some Fisher Cat “screaming”, which, for a recovering city person, is absolutely terrifying as it sounds like a child wailing or a woman screaming in horror.  I love this mountain, these woods, and enjoying the chorus of owls that creates the soundtrack of my nights.

I was inspired by my environment to make these fabulous Wise Mugs.  There are only three left.

French Language for Children

I work with elementary and middle school students on beginner to intermediate level French language skills.  For young children, I enjoy working with small groups both through Zoom, Google Classroom and meetings, or in person in Vermont (Mad River Valley and areas that use the HUUSD School District) in living rooms and libraries.  French is an absolutely beautiful language and prepares students for the study of all Romance Languages while expanding on their ability to communicate with others all over the world. My clients benefit from my vast collection of online digital resources including interactive Flashcards, Google documents, videos, and games.

Distance Doula

Sharon is now available for Zoom or Google Meeting doula support to people all over the world who are seeking fertility, pregnancy, postpartum, and infant parenting support in the English language.
