Basic Guidelines for Choosing the Best Class for YOU
Step #1: Think about your schedule. The truth is that you will only attend a class that is convenient for your current lifestyle, work schedule, family responsibilities, etc. Therefore, the best class for you is most likely the one you can actually attend! If you aren’t sure that the one you can attend is appropriate for you, call Sharon and inquire about your options (412) 855-5692. For example, if you are a beginner and the only class you can attend is listed as a more challenging class, don’t assume that you can’t do it! Just call and we’ll work something out. No worries!
Step #2: Think about what pace and style of class works with your physical abilities, yoga experience and personality. There are no “rules” and adults of all levels are welcome to attend ANY class on the schedule. Our classes are intimate and instructors are all experienced—we can help you modify a practice so that it meets your needs, no matter what it says in the chart. Obviously, if you are new to yoga or have physical challenges or injuries that you are working with, you might want to take a slow-paced or foundations level class first. Pregnant? Take a prenatal yoga class.
Step #3: Experiment! Regardless of what we call a class, the pace or style, most yoga students find that they like a particular instructor. Sometimes, we know exactly what we like about a class or a teacher—their voice, style, explanations, the tone and mood of their class, etc. But, in many cases, it’s more personal and it’s hard to say why one teacher speaks to us more than another. If you don’t like the first class you take, no apologies required! You are encouraged to try many teachers, classes and studios and see where you feel most comfortable and where you will get the most from your investment.
SHOWING UP and PAYING for CLASSES:
You do NOT need to pre-register for ANY class on the schedule. All classes are drop-in and you can just show up to a class that is convenient for you. The studio door opens between 10-15 minutes before a scheduled class. There are some things that you can do ahead of time to speed-up your sign-in process, but these are not required and you are welcome to just show up and pay and sign-into class and fill out any required forms at the studio. Your instructor will be delighted to welcome you and help you with sign-in procedures.
1-Use this link to pay for your “FIRST CLASS $5″ fee before you come to the studio.
2- If you plan to pay at the studio, you can print and complete this Student Purchase Order before you arrive at the studio. We do NOT keep cash at the studio and your instructor will not, under any circumstances, be able to make change for you.
3-All new students must fill out a new student form. You can print this NEW STUDENT FORM and bring the completed form with you to the studio to save time.
4-Follow this link to purchase a class card prior to coming to the studio. OR, you can print out this Student Purchase Order and bring exact cash, personal check or provide credit/debit card information on the form. Just give your completed form to the instructor at the studio.
WHAT SHOULD YOU WEAR?
Women: yoga pants, stretch pants, shorts, sweatpants and either an exercise bra with a close fitting top that allows for a full range of movement (t-shirt, tank top, etc.) or an exercise top with shelf bra. You may want to bring a sweatshirt or warm-up jacket so that you have something to put on during rest or slow movements. Basically, wear comfortable clothing that is not too tight that it stops your full range of motion nor too loose that your clothes get in the way. You do NOT need any special “yoga clothes.” All women must wear shirts (not just a bra top) for modesty.
Men: exercise pants, shorts, t-shirts, tank tops, sweatpants. You may want to bring a sweatshirt or warm-up jacket so that you can stay warm during more restful practices. Make sure that your selection is not so tight that you can’t move freely or so loose that you feel like your clothing is flopping around (ie. when you lean forward, is that big tent of a t-shirt going to flop in your face?). You do not need any special “yoga clothes.” All men must wear shirts for modesty.
